Heather will be greatly missed, but in the words of my niece Gracie, "Heather is in our hearts".

We've been to Kansas City, The Greenbrier in West Virginia--we've had family visit. So much has happened! David is busy with work--we're praying for doors to open to get back to KC, MO! In God's time. God has richly blessed us! Love to all!

Crusher Destroyer

David has been playing softball this summer for the Crusher Destroyers...he's having lots of fun with it. They have play offs in a couple of weeks. He's already signed up for the fall league. He plays right by the Potomac and near all of the memorials--how cool is that?!

So much has happened in the past few months. Here are some highlights:

*Mike and Ali came to visit
*Jane and Grant came to visit
*I went and visited family and friends in Kansas City
*David went on a fishing trip with his dad in Canada
*I got the job at State Farm--just completed my first week and passed my first test!
*I got to celebrate my sister's 25th b-day with her!
*David turned 26 on July 4th!!!

All in all, things are great. David LOVES his job and the people he works with. I also love my job and will be in training for 4 months--lots of studying and test taking!! Charlie was just groomed, thus he's acting neurotic. It's been really hot and humid here. I'm ready for fall. We still meet for church with a small group on Sundays, but I'd like to find something closer also where we can fellowship and worship. God is so good and we owe our all to Him!!

We're looking forward to our friends, Mike and Amber Segalo, coming out in October, and my parents will be coming soon after. :)

Friday night, David and I went to see the movie "UP". We both give it two thumbs up! It is absolutely precious--great story line, the animation is amazing, etc. Such a family friendly movie and very entertaining!

On Saturday, we went down into the DC area and had dinner with a friend of ours, Andy Bullard. We ate at Macaroni Grill--YUM! I love pasta--could eat it every day! Then, we went to see "Night at the Museum 2"--was pretty good/entertaining. I don't really remember the first one, but I was pleasantly surprised by the sequel.

We went to Alexandria, VA. on Sunday for church. There are more people meeting now, which is great. James Van Biber gave a really good sermon about love--how we should love all people--that through that love, we are loving God also. He read the Scripture out of Matthew about feeding the hungry, visiting those in prison, etc. That really hit home to me--we need to constantly focus on others. I know that when I'm serving others, I'm so much happier--not just because I'm serving God, but it also feels good to bring joy to someone's life. So, it is my mission here to find a great place to volunteer at. I do long to be a servant for Christ.

Laura Van Biber is the best hostess ever! She always makes a feast for us when we come on Sundays. We had fish tacos yesterday--they were absolutely amazing. (soft fried taco shells, fried/grilled tilapia, a great mayonnaise like tartar sauce to put on the taco, and cabbage/cheese to put on top--seriously, so yummy!) She also made homemade banana foster bread pudding--delicious--oh, and with homemade ice cream!!! We have so much fun sitting and talking while we're eating and afterward. The fellowship is so special.

I find out about the SF interview this week--please continue to pray for those who are making the decision. I'm trying to "trust and obey!"

*The interview went well--praise God!!! I will know in 2 weeks. :)
*David is out of town in Virginia--miss him!
*It was actually nice going to a workplace today--made me feel "normal" again
*Our new furniture should be coming in soon--just in time for ali and mike, so they don't have to sleep on the floor! LOL! We got a black leather love-seat, king sized bed, new mattress, coffee table, and I think that's it. We went to this cute furniture store in Middletown, MD-Gladhill.
*Charlie and I go for walks every day--he loves to chase the birds!
*I took some new pics of the house and I will upload them on here soon.
*I've been reading 30 Days of Joy, which has been amazing! It's a daily devotional book--has really helped me when I'm feeling so homesick.
*Last Sunday, we went to Alexandria, VA for church and then biked into Old Town along the Potomac.
*I'm sorting through all of our pictures and putting them into albums--David suggested this as a project--not the best one to do if you're feeling quite homesick! :) I know he meant well. :)
*I talk to my grandma every day, and this has been the biggest blessing--I've learned so much from her and she is such an amazing person! Love, you, Grandma Bennett!

Job interview with SF!!

I have a job interview with SF on Tuesday of next week at 9am--please pray!

This has been such a blessing. I've wanted to work at State Farm since we knew we were going to be moving here. It's only .3 miles from home, the salary is comparable to where I was, and I will learn some valuable information that could be helpful to David's future agency. At first, I was told that there wouldn't be any openings until early fall, but, as you can see, God has other plans (the best ones) in mind and knows our needs. I am very grateful for this!

I will say, though, that I have been spinning my wheels lately because I'm used to being on the go, go, go!!! I'm having a hard time just relaxing and enjoying being at home. I need some new hobbies/things to do. Suggestions, please! :)

This weekend's events:

*Went to DC to spend time with Josh and Jennifer Walsh
*Saw a band, "Milk Machine"--consisted of a trumpet player, accordion/baritone player, tuba player, and a drummer--the theme was 80's prom, so their outfits were GREAT!
*Ate Ethiopian food--you eat it all with your hands using this really spongy bread (there is a name for it) It was very good--David got something spicy and we both tried raw beef!!! Surprisingly, good. :)
*I walked in heels all night long until I thought my feet were going to fall off--never wearing heels in DC again. The best part was the end of the night when we were headed to the metro and getting onto the escalator--NOT WORKING! And, this was a VERY LONG ESCALATOR! I felt like I was walking down the steps of the Mayan Ruins with hot coals under my feet! :)
*We did also see a terrible public display of affection on the Metro--it was CRAZY!
*On Saturday, we alphabetized (David's idea) all of our books and put them away--it took hours. :)
*We had people over to our house on Sunday for worship and fun. We had a great prayer and testimony service--very uplifting! We grilled kabobs and had lots of other yummy things to eat!!!
*Charlie's 4th b-day was on Sunday--Happy Birthday, Charlie! He got a new toy--a little nubby ball.--he loves it!

Monday, today, David's back to work and I'm back to cleaning, making dinner, cleaning, reading, cleaning, working out, and cleaning. :)

Prayer request: I have an interview with State Farm next week in Auto Claims--please pray that the Lord will be with me and that His will be done. Also, David is going to be out of town next week for 4 days--pray for safe travels!

Memorial Day Weekend Festivities!

We went to church for the first time since we've been here at Laura and James Van Biber's home. They live in a great townhome in Alexandria, VA. It took a little over an hour to get there, but it was a beautiful drive. At 11am, Blair, Laura and James' son, rang the bell for church to start. We sang a few hymns--another member, Andy Bullard from Oak Grove, was also there, and then James read some really neat Scriptures about forgiveness. It was really special! Then, Laura made a scrumptious meal--all organic and locally grown! We also went to the Farmer's Market that morning--they have one right by their house. It was amazing. The produce was so fresh and delightful to eat! After lunch, we just sat and talked, which gave us a sense of "normalcy" to be sitting and chatting amongst friends. Everyone has been so good to us here! It is so true that the bonds of Christ link us together in such a way that we become family.

We spent Memorial Day in DC. We went to the American History Museum and the Natural History Museum before we watched the parade. It was incredible! The museums were amazing, and we only touched the very surface of all there is to see in the area. Our realtor told us before we moved that we need to go somewhere every weekend and see something different and new--we're totally going to do this! We saw Abe Lincoln's top hat, a cuff with his blood on it from when he was shot, parts of the Berlin Wall--it was very bitter sweet, especially the parade, knowing that we are still at war. We can't wait to go back and see all the memorials! Thank you to our Dads--Roger (army) and Grant (navy), and our grandfathers (Bill Bennett--navy), for serving this amazing country! We are truly blessed to live in the USA!

It's hard to sum up all of the fantastic things we saw in a blog without writing a novel, so you're getting the shortened version. Cool things we saw:

The cake was just okay. I made a golden yellow cake with lemon pudding and cool whip on top. It stays in the refrigerator so it stays cool. He did still have two big pieces!

For memorial day, I'm going to make an ice cream cake:

You need:
a couple boxes of ice cream sandwiches--vanilla and chocolate flavored.
Cool whip-one tub of regular flavor and one tub of strawberry flavor.
chocolate syrup
2 snickers bars

You line a pan/dish with the vanilla flavored ice cream sandwiches. Then, you put the strawberry cool whip on top of the sandwiches. After this, you drizzle the chocolate syrup over the cool whip and sprinkle bits of snickers on top, too. Now, you want to repeat this process with the chocolate flavored sandwiches on top of the strawberry cool whip--then, more topping, and you're done. Freeze.

YUM!

*Four, yes, four auto claims positions have opened up at the SF Operations Center in Frederick--please keep that in prayer! Initially, they had told us that nothing would be open until late summer/early fall--God knows BEST!!
*David is in Charlottesville, WV and is loving the city! He will be traveling A LOT--playing a lot of golf, etc. with the agents. :) He is really liking it--meeting lots of new people and learning a TON! Please remember him in prayer also!
*I've seen 2 hummingbirds now! :)
*No orioles yet, but there are these gray birds with black heads and orange butts that seem to love the oranges I've been putting out. I'm not sure what kind of bird they are??
*Charlie has several new friends in the "hood"--Phoebe, Bijou...they're kind of snotty. :)
*I love cleaning hardwood floors--they're a cinch to clean!
*Yes, I've been doing the laundry and all of the cooking!! Wow, I know! It's been fun!
*The weather has been simply gorgeous every day. Charlie and I walk every day and he thoroughly looks forward to our walks! (right now he's sitting on the top of the chair looking out the window--so sweet.)
*I am truly excited about the outlet mall that is in Hagerstown, MD--about 20 minutes from here--YAY!
*I want to start making my own jewelry soon--they offer free classes at a store near here. I figure that I will probably enjoy that more than knitting. I really haven't been around town much since we've been here b/c I get lost so easily! Ah, my sense of direction is terrible!
*I baked a cake for David today--golden yellow--then, I'm poking holes in it and filling it with lemon pudding and putting it in the fridge so it's nice and cool--great summer dessert! I'll let you all know if he likes it.

"They say it's your birthday...da, da, da, da, da, da!"

I wanted to tell you all about my 28th birthday--it was FABULOUS! My birthday was on Friday, and David cooked dinner for me--a yummy taco salad dish! He also baked brownies, lit 28 candles, (melted the lighter while doing it. no, this isn't a joke, but it's pretty funny!) and sang happy birthday to me!!! :) Then, we watched "Yes, Man" with Jim Carey--it was an okay movie. Overall, the night was FANTASTIC, but it gets better....

On Saturday, we headed out to Baltimore to walk around the bay area. It was a gorgeous day! We went aboard the USS Constellation, the last all sail warship built by the US Navy. It was very interesting! www.constellation.org We ate dinner after touring the ship at M & S Grill--this restaurant is also on the plaza in KC. Dinner was delicious! I had fish and chips and David had Shrimp Pomadoro, some fancy Italian dish. He kept telling me that we had to be somewhere by 8pm. I kept thinking, "where could we be going???" He told me that we missed this "show" when we were in Kansas City. So, that got me thinking..Disney on Ice? Maybe Coldplay? I was way off! He had gotten tickets for us to see one of our favorite comedians, Joel McHale, host of one of our favorite Friday night shows, "The Soup." http://www.eonline.com/on/shows/thesoup/ Here's one of his quotes:

I got a T-Shirt with "Stains" on it, and we met Joel after the show--he signed my T-Shirt, "Libby-Happy 60th Birthday! (chicken tetrazini) heart Joel McHale."

All in all, this was an absolutely magical night for me! I mean, c'mon, we met Joel McHale! He overheard us saying that we had just moved to Maryland and asked what brought us here. I told him that State Farm did. And, he said, "I have State Farm!" I guess he did a commercial for them 6 years ago?? Pretty cool!

Jane, my mother in law, said something before we left that stuck in my mind. She told David and I to make memories here, and we're doing just that! Thank you, Jane, for that advice! It is so true. The more memories we make here, the more this feels like "home."

*I go to a career fair Tuesday--woot woot! :)
*Velveeta costs 6.19, gas is 2.35 a gallon, and milk is 2.99 a gallon..
*I started P90x on Friday, and it has been amazing--all of my muscles hurt, but in a good way!
*We're hoping to see David's cousins and aunt and uncle soon!
*Most likely, we will be getting together with our two good friends that are living in DC, Josh and Jennifer, next weekend for fresh seafood!!!!!
*We're selling David's car on Craigslist
*We got a letter in the mail from Bank of America stating our Mortgage has been paid off--thank you, State Farm and Dave Ramsey for helping us stick to a plan and get out of debt! Praise God!

Our First Week Here

Our journey began as we left Grant and Jane's home and headed to St. Louis last Saturday. We stayed there for one night, which was plenty long enough, and then headed out to Dayton, Ohio! Driving through the plains of the Mid-West is a pretty boring drive, but, we managed! While in Dayton, David and I played a pretty intense game of Yahtzee (yes, I won! 2 out of 3 games--the last game I scored over 600 points--4 yahtzees!).. while we watched 3 painful hours of Celebrity Apprentice! Joan Rivers won--she seemed happy, but we really couldn't tell by her (lack of) facial expressions! :) After our one night stay in Dayton, we headed onto Maryland for the last leg of the trip.

Driving through the mountains was BEAUTIFUL!! The weather was agreeable the entire drive, and has continued to be great since we've arrived. God is so good! We took some pictures when we first got into Maryland overlooking the mountains. I will upload those photos, and many more, once I figure this blog stuff out!

We arrived in our "new" home Monday day and immediately heard rapid knocks on the door. David and I looked at each other, both thinking, "Who in the world could this be?!" Well, it was our landlord, Bob, who came to drop the keys to the house off for us. He then proceeded to show David around the new place--the hot water heater, etc. After about 45 minutes of showing us the ropes, he left, only to return about 5 minutes later, to talk to David about more "do's" and "dont's".

He is such a sweet guy. He and his wife lived here only a few years before she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and had to be moved to a memory care unit at a local nursing home. Bob is also living there in the independent living area. David and I were going to sleep in our sleeping bags Monday night, but Bob offered to let us borrow his air mattress. We are VERY gracious for this! Now, you can imagine David, Charlie and myself all fitting on this air mattress, sliding around like crazy! But, it did it's job, and we did catch some Z's.

On Tuesday, the movers arrived with all of our belongings. It was so nice to have them pack everything up for us! And, since Tuesday, we have still been unpacking....UGH! The kitchen is done. The MBR is done, but we're getting a new bed in there, so we're waiting for that. The living room is mostly done, along with the guest bedroom and all of the bathrooms. We still need to unpack the office and get all of our books put away--we literally have TONS of books! This same day, Bob dropped off flowers to the house to welcome us into the new place and his note also wished us much happiness here. Again, how sweet!

Charlie and I spent most of the day outside on Tuesday, while the movers were unpacking everything. We enjoyed watching the birds. There are cardinals in a pine tree right behind our house, and they have a little baby chick. I got some great pictures of the baby bird. Pics are coming! I did put a hummingbird feeder up and have orange slices out too--haven't seen a single Oriole or Hummingbird since we've been here! Any suggestions on how to attract them??

Sidenote: I started a low carb diet the day before we left for Maryland--BAD idea! The first day was fine, but after several salads, a bag of fried pork skin, and at least 6 giant slim jims later, I was DONE! :)

The last few days, we have spent unpacking the place. We are really loving it. Charlie, on the other hand, is having a hard time adapting, and he absolutely hates the hardwood floors. We are getting a giant area rug for the living room. And, I am quite happy to have all of the "old fashioned" curtains down. BLAH! David is now telling me that the house looks bare, but I would rather have that than UGLY curtains any day! :)

On Thursday, I received a gorgeous Peace Plant from my Grandma for my b-day, and today, I received lovely flowers from Grant and Jane to celebrate 28 years!!! WOOHOO! :) I've gotten more flowers this week than I ever have!! Thank you all for the cards that you have sent, for the phone calls, prayers and words of encouragement. We so appreciate and love each one of you.

So, today is my birthday--YAY! David has to go into the office, which is only .3 miles away, to meet with his new boss, John. He starts work on Monday. I believe we're going to Baltimore tomorrow to celebrate my b-day, and the sun is shining today--it's been PERFECT! I am starting P90X today also--it's an awesome workout program that lasts for 90 days, and then you continue with it afterward. I have heard from several people now that it truly is an amazing regimen and that it really works! I'm looking forward to this. Charlie and I have been going for walks every day and we see people out and about all the time--walking their dogs, running, biking, etc. It's great to be in a community that embraces being outdoors. We have tennis courts, swimming pools, and a country club in our subdivision, which will be nice to take advantage of this summer! And, yes, we can see the mountains from where we are! It's so nice because we're close to stores--wal-mart and starbucks, to name a few, but we're also still far enough away to not hear the hustle and bustle of the city. :)

We are excited that there is a Restoration Branch close by and we plan on visiting them soon! We are so thrilled with what God has already done in our lives and are anxiously awaiting to see how He is going to use us here! I still don't have a job (please keep me in your prayers for that) so I will have a lot of time to spend with God and serving others. I have been enjoying going out on the deck in the morning and reading and praying--so nice! Also, there are several nursing homes close by, which I am hoping to volunteer at.

One more thing, there is a ping pong table downstairs, and we have been playing every day! It's been so fun! We love it! David is getting to be really good and has been giving me a run for my money!!! So, when you all come visit, we can play some doubles!
